Me and a few friends just came up with a really cool challenge. We've decided to share it with you guys. Before we get into the challenge rules, we'll be making up a new challenge every month so be sure to check them out! We'd appreciate it if you could give us a few ideas in the comments below. Okay, lets get onto the challenge...
The Hotel Challenge is a fun attempt to run a business venture in the Sims 3.
This Challenge can be played international. Make sure you have a 60 x 60 lot available to create your hotel. If wanted you can have a smaller lot depending on the size of you hotel, just make sure it has enough room to accommodate all of your guests and hotel facilities.
You need to create 8 Sims (maximum number aloud), 1 of which will be the owner of the hotel. * If you want you can use mods which allow more than 8 Sims per household and if you want more of a challenge then by all means make as many 'guests' as you want*
For this challenge specifically I would recommend using the long lifespan.
NO CHEATS! Apart from:
For building the hotel you can use the 'motherlode' money cheat (CTRL, SHIFT, C, MOTHERLODE) so that the hotel has all the necessary amenities. After finishing building use the set 'family funds' cheat to set the household funds back down to 1000 Simileons.
If you kick out a guest or one passes away, you may use the 'add to active family' cheat to add newer guests to the hotel.
You may not use any more cheats after this.
Back to the rules:
You have to create 8 Sims in CAS (CREATE - A - SIM) because you need to pick there individual traits and their ages. They can be any age from Young Adults, Adults or Elders.
The better option is to have the Owner as a young adult so that s/he can keep the duties in the hotel running smoothly.
The following traits for the owner are COMPULSORY, they are:
Natural Cook (So they can cook nice meals for the guests)
Brave (In case of burglars, fires e.c.t.)
Handy (To fix breakages, plumbing issues)
Friendly (To be nice to guests)
Neat (So they can clean all rooms and areas for guests)
The 7 guests must all have the slob trait. This is compulsory because the hotel manager/owner will be in charge of cleaning up after them. This means the owner will have to clean the hotel rooms, bathrooms, fixing appliances (microwaves, coffee machines, stereos, computer e.c.t.), and other tasks. However the rest of the guests traits are up to you. Just make sure their unique. Here are some ideas:
Guest 1 (Personality: Rocker/Rebel) Young Adult:
Great Sense of Humor
Rebel (Generations Needed for this trait. If not available choose a different one reflecting their personality)
Guest 2 & 3 (Personalities: Genuine Lovers/ Posh) Adults:
These guests are a couple ( one couple is only aloud in this challenge, they share a room with a double bed instead of single)
Both Love Outdoors
Guest 4 (Personality: In and Out of Relationships/Over Flirt) Young Adult:
Guest 5 (Personality: Old Grump/ Lonely) Elder:
Hates the Outdoors
Guest 6 (Personality: Overly Cocky/ Boastful) Young Adult:
Star Quality (LATE NIGHT need. If not available choose a different trait reflecting their personality)
Guest 7 (Personality: Mean/Grouchy) Young Adult:
We have decided that if wanted you can have 5 or 6 guests and have the couple raise a baby or 2 . Another of our suggestions would be to have one of the guests be a teen and have a part- time job. ( This suggestion involving the Teen would be recommended if you have Generations mainly as they can set pranks for the other guests! REMEMBER: If the couple in your game have the child (or twins!) it will be their duty to take care of the baby, not yours (the owners). When they go to work and you are stuck as babysitter, you will be permanently enrolled as this job. MOST of your time running the hotel, so think of that before thinking on adding a child.
Building the Hotel:
In this Hotel Challenge you have the choice of downloading one or building one. I'd recommend building as you can have your own layout. If you decided to download one you will have to make severely adjustments.
If you are building the hotel make sure the following is included:
You will need to have 8 rooms.
1 of these 8 rooms will need be close to the lobby area (concierge area) and will be the owners room.
The other rooms (Guest Rooms) will need to all have En-suite Bathroom. The following items will have to be included in the rooms:
1 Single Bed ( Double if you decided to add the couple),
REMEMBER: If you do decided to add a child in your game, the couples room should have a crib for the baby)
Other Compulsory facilities your hotel must have:
A small or large gym (small or large depending on the size of your hotel)
A large outdoor pool (Another idea: Depending on the quality (1-5 star) of your hotel you could place hot tubs outside.)
A dining area (Only use Tables and Chairs, No use of KITCHEN facilities in the dining area) Also add a High Chair if the couple have a toddler)
Small Cafe/ Bar area for drinks only ( A small bar and a couple of stools. A few comfy seats and a coffee maker on a counter)
Entertainment Area ( A video game station with a large TV screen, An area to watch TV Comfy Sofas's, Toys, Fooseball table, Darts machine (if you have the late night expansion pack)
Small Library room (Computers, Comfy Seats, Bookcases, Beanbags (if generations expansion pack is available)
The main and most important rooms must be created a separate rooms:
Have a number of at least 6 counters (you will need lots of space to cook for all guests)
Have a least 2 stoves as you will need to cook a number of different meals for the guests different diets.
Have at least 2 fridges as you will need a lot of ingredients and storage space.
Have a least 1 dishwasher as you will need a lot of washing up done in little time.
Have at least 1 sink as you will need to wash your hands before and after cooking.
Have at least 1 trash compactor as you will have a lot of trash to throw out and it takes a lot of time to take it out to the Garbage Can outside.
Make sure you buy or already have the cooking level 1 Skill book and the level 1 handiness skill book using you initial hotel but if you do want a bit more of a challenge let the hotel owner start off with a low leveled skill on Cooking and Handiness.
Building Money: Remember you may use the motherlode money cheat to initially set-up your hotel but you must use the family fund cheat to reset your funds to the 1000 simileons you need.
When building the ONLY kitchen in the hotel , make sure it has 1 door and 1 door only. This is very important and you MUST do it. Okay so:
STEP 1: Click the kitchen door.
STEP 2: Select the option: Lock for everyone but myself.
This is so EXTREMELY important so that none of the guests can access the kitchen to make meals, only you!
You (the owner) are in charge of providing every guest with a meal, so make sure you cook them breakfast, lunch and dinner. In the morning, get up earlier than the other guests and cook 2 servings of breakfast and then later on in the day, 2 servings of lunch and then later in the evening, 2 serving of dinner. You can make desserts too if wanted.
After making the food, you will need to simply place the servings into your inventory. Then, walking out of the kitchen and into the dining area, pull those serving out of your inventory and onto the table. Then making sure everybody in the hotel gets a meal, click 'Call Household to meal'.
After the guests have finished eating, you will have the task of clearing away the plates. The easiest way of doing this is to have at least 2 dishwashers in your kitchen, however if you want a bit more of a challenge use the sink to wash them up by hand.
Each Morning, you will have to thoroughly clean the guests rooms as you are the maid role aswell.
The reason the owner must have the neat trait is so that the challenge is easier. It will be more convenient to clean the entire hotel in one go. Just click the floor and you will get the option to 'clean house'.
So every morning, after cooking the guests breakfast, making their beds, cleaning their bathrooms (toilet, shower, sink e.c.t) REMEMBER: If you started the challenge with a low handiness, make sure you call a repair man to repair an electrical appliance to avoid being electrocuted!
When you first start off, you must assign each guest to a room. Make sure the next time they come to sleep, they sleep in their bed as this will make things complicated within your hotel and you do not want that.
You must make sure that all guests start a job as this is how they will pay for their stay at your hotel. What they earn on weekdays will be added to the funds of the hotel, which you will then pay with that for the weekly bill. It will also be used to either renovate the hotel as necessary or to buy groceries e.c.t.
So MAKE SURE all 7 (or 6 if the couple has the baby) go on the computer or grabs a newspaper to get a job. If they have a profession such as daycare, they will be too busy looking after babies then making the money to tend for the hotel.
If wanted, you may create and bring in more guests to the hotel, ONLY to replace them if one of them dies (Elders aging up, or starving to death; which wouldn't happen if you feed them!)
At some point, whilst running the hotel, you (the owner) will gather enough money from your guests paychecks to hire a reoccurring maid. But REMEMBER: The owner must start with 1000 simileons and must do the cleaning of the hotel themselves for the first month or so, whilst the guest gather enough money from their jobs to cover the amount of the hotel bills and to hire a daily maid AND still have enough money left to replace broken appliances and to renovate the decor as necessary. Personally, I recommend that you wait until a few guests have climbed a bit higher on their career ladders before you think of adding a maid.
Things to keep in mind:
The hotel bill will start to be getting very expensive due to the size of the lot, the usage of electricity and plumbing, so make sure you save on your money, starting by doing the cleaning yourself opposed to straight away hiring a maid.
Just because we are allowing maids, doesn't necessarily mean you HAVE to have one. It's all depending on the level of challenge you want the game yo be. Just remember it's best not to hire a maid straight away as you will run out of money, AND FAST!
Just remember that if you do hire a maid, you still have to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner with or without the maid, you still have to fix and replace broken appliances. You still have to wash and clear the dishes away after dinner because the maid is not there at night! The maid will clean the guest rooms, even the bathrooms, HOWEVER in the night ( when the maids gone home) if the shower/bath/toilet/sink and it affects the guest's mood you're recommended to clean it) or if you're a lazy owner, just wait for the maid to clean in the next day. If you're a good hotel owner, you wouldn't do that.
If you have a maid, s/he won't have any access what so ever to the kitchen, so that means you'll have to do it yourself.
Vampires, Ghosts e.c.t.
Vampires and Ghosts are allowed in wanted. It's your hotel, you can do what you want with it as long as you follow the rules. REMEMBER: Vampires will cost a lot of money to feed as you will have to buy or grow A LOAD of Plasma Fruit. Just focus on the owner, as the Vampire will drink from others in the town, all your job is, is to provide the Plasma Fruit for them in the hotel.
If you decide you want to become the vampire (as the owner) it is highly inappropriate to drink from your guests! If you are romantically involved with one of them, an exception can be made in this case.
If you want to kick out a guest, that is aloud but don't forget that any new guests you bring in to replace them, will have to start off at the bottom of the career ladder and will not give as much funding as the others initially. Just remember, when replacing a guest, make sure they have the SLOB trait.
Cook lots of meals at the same time, if possible and store them in the fridge (buy the best and most expensive at first so it doesn't spoil at fast) That way it is the most convenient and your sim won't have to get up as early. As your cooking skills expand, you'll soon be able to cook a wide range or meals for your guest, not just Mac 'n' Cheese. On Weekends, why not hold a BBQ treat by the pool for your guests.
NOTE: If your Owner wants to become romantically involved with a Guest or someone in the town, they are welcome to, just make sure that you keep it as private a possible.
That's it! I hope you have fin and enjoying doing this challenge as much as I did. If you have any questions you can just simply comment below and I'll get back to you as soon as I can!
Hope you enjoy!
